Eggs Box 360... the latest in fluency game technology!

Can't afford the latest Xbox 360? Why not check out the latest in fluency task technology... The Eggsbox 360!!  Its differentiated, reuseable, and even a bit fun!

To set up the Eggsbox, students are given an egg carton and blank slip of paper.  They decorate the slip of paper with their name and 'Eggsbox' and any other pictures they like.  This is then glued on the top (photo above).

Using data from the NFA, each student is then given a task card to glue under their egg carton lid, this clearly states what they need to do.  Each task is taken directly from the NFA pathway and adapted to read as a task.
On the number slip (small circles) students write random numbers within a given range ie 2 digit number below 50 or 3 digit numbers.  These numbers are glued into the eggcup section, like eggs.

Next up, students place a counter/ cube or something similar into the eggsbox and shake.  Upon opening the eggsbox the counter will be on a random number which becomes the start point for the task.
For example:
Task - Count backwards by ones from your number 10 times.  The eggbox number after shaking reads 27.  Therefore the student counts backwards by ones, ten times, starting from 27.

Students are encouraged to check their answers after each round.  They can use whatever is needed however 100's charts work best for lower end tasks and calculators for higher end.  This helps keep students on the right track and provides opportunities for self correction.
*Please note that this is a fluency task, so students should be getting the correct answers, but mistakes do get made.

From roving observations, and further testing, students progress along the pathway.  We have our task cards hanging up in the room and students can easily get a new card when needed (teacher directed).
This new card can either be stuck over the previous task, or alternatively students can take their old eggsbox home (for further practice) and make a new one for school.

Here is a link to the task cards and number slips that I have put together.  As I'm in grade 1/2 and a bit stretched for time I haven't written tasks for the whole NFA pathway (sorry!)
